Protective Coatings

Protective coatings are a simple way to reduce corrosion by limiting the exposure of the metal to a corrosive environment. To ensure a full protection, the surface will need to be regularly recoated and checks in place whilst applying the coats to ensure the correct thicknesses are achieved.

Thermal paint insulating technology quite simply creates a thermal barrier which reflects heat once the paint or coating has dried. Properties in hot climates save energy and money on air-conditioning bills when exterior walls and roofs are coated, because less solar heat passes through these surfaces into the buildings.

Hygienic coatings are frequently used in areas where health and safety are of utmost importance, such as healthcare pharmaceutical and food manufacturing facilities. They are typically pastel colours and light shades. These tranquil colours suit waiting areas in doctos and dentist surgeries, along with hopsital wards and respite centres. These coatings are formulated to be easy to clean, low odour, simple and fast to apply, something that is important when it comes to timescales.

An intumescent coating is a paint-like material which is inert at low temperatures but reacts with heat. As the temperature rises, during a fire event, the intumescent coating increases in volume and reduces in density, forming a char layer that covers the steel.

The exact performance of intumescent products can vary, offering 30, 60, 90 and 120 minutes of fire protection depending on the specific type of coating.
